What should actually be automated after a discovery call — and what should not

Automate the things that are the same every time and that you resent doing. Keep the things that are the reason they chose you.

Reasonable to automate: the recording and notes going somewhere findable, the follow-up email going out the same day, the proposal reminder at day three, the "did this land?" at day seven, and the CRM stage moving without you remembering.

Do not automate: the actual recommendation, anything that reads as if a machine wrote it, and the decision about whether this person is a fit. A templated follow-up that says nothing specific about the call is worse than a late one that does.

The test I use: if the client could tell it was automated and would feel less valued, do not automate it.

The one I would add: automate the reminder to you, not the message to them. The timing is the hard part; the words should still be yours.
