I teach piano to about 40 adults and my follow-up is the weak part — people finish a block and just drift off. I'm trying something small for the next month: a two-line message within 24 hours of every lesson. Line one is what they did well, line two is the one thing to practice. Nothing else, no links, no upsell. My question back to the room before I report anything: is my problem actually the follow-up, or is it that I have no way of knowing who's drifting until they've already gone quiet?
