Testing one paid placement a week instead of four

I've been running four sponsored placements a month on the blog and the sponsor money lands whenever it lands, which is the whole problem. For the next four weeks I'm cutting to one placement a week, same rate, and seeing if the cash actually gets predictable. Honestly I don't know yet if this is a demand problem or just my invoicing being messy, so I'm isolating the schedule first.
