Testing whether completion depends on live sessions

I'm trying to work out whether my low completion rates are about the live calls or about the work between them. My plan is to keep the curriculum and the cohort identical and just make the live session optional for one group, so the only thing that changes is whether they have to show up. Before I commit to that, has anyone split it that way and found the drop-off was actually somewhere else entirely?
