How to Build an Email List From Scratch
Grow an email list from zero: a clear lead magnet, a focused sign-up page, placements on every channel and a welcome sequence that earns trust.

An email list grows when three things are in place: an offer worth signing up for, an easy place to sign up and visible links from every channel you already use. Here is how to set each up from zero.
Create a specific lead magnet
A lead magnet is a free resource that solves one small problem for your ideal reader: a checklist, a template, a short video series or a mini guide. Specific beats broad. "A five-step checklist for pricing your first coaching package" attracts better subscribers than "tips for coaches". Make it useful on its own, not a teaser.
Build a focused sign-up page
The page needs a headline that names the benefit, a few bullets on what the reader gets, a short form with only the essentials and a line saying how often you will email. Remove navigation that leads away. Confirm sign-ups by email so your list is real, and make unsubscribing easy; it keeps your sender reputation healthy.
Put links everywhere
Add the page to your social bios, video and podcast descriptions, the end of articles, your website header and your email signature. Mention it in your content: "I have a checklist on this, the link is in the description." Every channel is a feeder. Gbeya email marketing provides hosted sign-up pages and forms that tag each contact with the source, so you can see which channels work.
Send a welcome sequence
A welcome sequence of three to five emails sets the tone. Send the resource immediately, introduce yourself and your best work in the second email, share a story or case in the third and ask a question in the fourth to start a conversation. People who reply are more likely to stay on the list and see future emails.
Grow with partners and content
Once the basics work, add guest posts, podcast appearances, newsletter swaps with complementary creators and content that answers search questions. Each brings a different source of subscribers; compare them by cost and quality.
Keep the list healthy
Remove inactive subscribers after repeated sends without opens, honour unsubscribes quickly and only email people who agreed to hear from you. A smaller engaged list outperforms a large unengaged one.
What to track
Watch sign-up rate on the page, the source of each subscriber, welcome-sequence open rate and the revenue per subscriber over time.
