How to Move a Podcast RSS Feed Safely
Switch podcast hosts without losing subscribers: back up episodes, set a 301 redirect, update the feed in directories and check that it works.

Moving hosts is safe when you keep the show's identity intact. The identity is your RSS feed address: apps and directories read it to find your episodes. Do the steps in order and you can switch hosts without losing subscribers.
Why people move
Common reasons are cost, limits on storage or downloads, weak statistics, the wish to run the show from a platform that also handles the website, email and sponsors, or concern about what happens if a host shuts down. Whatever your reason, plan the switch rather than rushing it.
Step one: back up everything
Download your audio files, cover art, transcripts and a copy of the current feed. Note your show's title, description, categories and the current feed address. Keep the old account active until the move is confirmed.
Step two: import into the new host
Most hosts can import an existing feed by its address, copying the episodes and metadata. Check a few episodes: titles, dates, descriptions, chapters and artwork should match. Test playback.
Step three: redirect the old feed
The key step is a permanent (301) redirect from the old feed address to the new one. Apps follow it and carry your subscribers to the new address. Many hosts also support a standard tag in the feed that announces the new address to apps. Do not delete the old feed; leave the redirect in place for at least several months, and ideally permanently.
Step four: check directories and apps
Directories list your show by its feed address. After the redirect, confirm that the main listing shows your episodes, and, where a directory asks, update the feed address in your account there. Publish a short test episode or update an old description to verify that changes appear.
Step five: watch downloads
Expect a small dip while apps refresh. Compare weekly downloads for the following month. If numbers do not recover, check that the redirect is a permanent redirect and that the directory points at the right address.
Make the website part of the move
Publish each episode as a page on your own site with show notes and the player, so search engines and listeners find the content wherever the audio is hosted. Gbeya podcast guest booking and the podcast tools work alongside your site and email list.
